Until the 1980s, viticulture was not that common in Chile, let alone on a commercial basis. However, several international wine producers saw the potential of the South American country. The driving force behind Mapu's wines is Baroness Philippine De Rothschild. She bought an impressive vineyard called Villavicencio in the mid-1990s. This estate is located in Maule Valley, which is in the south of the large Central Valley wine region. The climate here is excellent for wine growing. With the ocean to the west and the Andes to the east, the vineyards are in a perfect spot.

Because the Mapu vineyards are in a perfect location, the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes ripen wonderfully. The bunches are full, juicy and bursting with flavor. This is immediately evident when you pour Mapu Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose gives you typical cabernet sauvignon notes, which makes us very happy. Fresh raspberries, fragrant cherries and plump blueberries. A touch of plum, coffee and pepper reveal a light wood aging. This is about only 6 months, not too long. In this way, Mapu Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon remains pure. The taste is varied, with soft fruit tones in combination with beautiful tannins. In the aftertaste, delicate notes of nuts and spices dominate this red wine.
